Random photographs from December

Here are some photos from December (we’re really stepping back in time now!) Not sure if they’ve ever been posted or not! So here we go!!

Every year an ice rink is installed in Place de Gaulle/Place Diamant in Ajaccio. It probably uses an astronomical amount of energy and it’s not a good idea to go skating in the afternoon as the blazing Ajaccio sun melts the ice and if you fall over, well you can only guess what a mess that would be! Not quite the ice-skating we are used to!!

The evening of 6 Dec me, Anna, Beth, Clara and Thom went ice-skating. Of course the Canadians ripped up the ice while poor Clara who had never gone skating before (which makes sense since she’s from Spain!) was gripping the hand rail all night!
Here we are getting ready to go! Francesca came with us as resident photographer!

Check out the palm trees in the background while Thom and I rip up the ice!

I don’t know what I’m instructing Anna in but it looks like she’s ready to try it out!

This is reminiscent of the time I went skating in a circle in my backyard!

So now random stuff:

Libertà – the nationalist/rebels protest poster I stole one night shortly after the fête de Beaujolais

Me and Clara one night when it was raining and we were going to a bar… stepped under this yellow sign in front of the green door and Thom took a photo

Boats and clouds

One day I went to the beach and made a circle of sand mounds for fun! Here are some nice beach photos

When Christmas exploded on Ajaccio – the crown the hangs at the corner of Ave de Paris and Cours Napleon was finally lit up!

Cours Napoleon

The abomination that was the blue Christmas cone

Photobucket

Looking towards Place Foch – you can’t see it very well but there was a tree made up of white sparkling balls… very bizarre

Photobucket

The fountain and blue tubes that were attached to the palm trees along the sea

Photobucket

In the train station a giant photo of the bridge and the micheline train that no longer runs along the bridge thanks to the brilliant engineer who built the new train too big for the tunnel of Vizzavona!

Photobucket

The view towards the Iles Sanguinaires from Mélanie’s house

Photobucket

The blue cone abomination in the daytime – it was I think maybe even more dreadful in the daytime then at night!

Photobucket

Along the main road and my walk to the Tuesday school – the Chapelle des Grecs with mountains in the background

Photobucket

Typical classroom at Residence des Îles – Mme Grimaldi. Notice the bad state of the white board and the Corsican words above the blackboard. (the teachers are not capable of teaching English because they can’t speak it but they are capable of teaching Corsican, it seems, even though they don’t speak that either. … hmmm

Photobucket

Res des iles outside – weird shape and the iles sanguinaires in the background

Kitty in the window

Finally right before vacation I got mom’s present in the mail (three months after being mailed…) I was pretty happy! Thom documented the process
